Tytuł: Looking for 5th gearbox gear .80:1 or .82:1 found in Polski Fiat 125 or FSO

Greetings-

I am looking for the longer 5th gear found in Polski Fiat 125p or the FSO Polonez.  I believe the ratio is either .80 or .82.  Any help locating one would be greatly appreciated!  I am in the USA and don't mind the shipping.

Thanks!
Tony

The 5th gear in FSO Polonez has 0,803 ratio. Supply of gearbox parts for FSO is still quite good in Poland.

Thank you for the response.  Can you give me a website of a reputable supplier in Poland that sells the gear?  I am having a hard time locating one.  Thanks!

Nobody comes to my mind these days. Supply in spares is quite good, but no big distribution company does it for FSO anymore due to low market demand. So we usually buy parts through FSO fan forums, "Polmozbyt" shops and allegro.pl - Polish auction site like eBay. Look for "5 bieg" phrase.

Caution: not all Polonez gears will fit to Fiat!
They modified gearwheels in late 90ties to reduce noise, I'm not even sure which year was that... 98 or 99. Cogs have slighly different angles. I'm sure in 97 cogs still had the old angles.

No they didn't. They've changed them when introducing MR93 model. 5th gear ratio before 1993 was 0.803, and after 0.806, so just slight, not even noticable difference. I'm pretty sure that all the 5 speed gearboxes from beginning of the production to 1993 had 0.803 ratio. So you can't actually buy anything "stock" to make 5th gear longer. If you're not planning to change gearbox for some custom stuff (banned should know something about it), than you can only change your final ratio.

Thanks much.  The stock 5th gear here in the states is 0.88:1  So I am looking for the 5th gear you have over there to put in my 124 gearbox.  It will take a bit of machining, but shouldn't be to hard to do.  I just need to find one.  The idea is to change the final ratio to drop the RPMs at highway speeds. Thanks for the suggestions on where to look.

One last thing.  Does anyone know the part number for the 5th gear?
